  • ‘Rethinking Safety through Inclusion + Wellbeing’ (I+W) is our holistic approach to physical and psychological health and safety – addressing the unique risk factors in construction. I+W challenges us to move beyond traditional health and safety practices and measures. I+W requires all H&S professionals to focus away from traditional practices and towards being challenging and curious and being actively involved in hosting, coaching, mentoring and engagement
Role Purpose
  • To act as an adviser, facilitator and champion for Health and Safety delivery within their project/business/facility.
  • To provide local advice and support necessary to assist managers and staff to fulfil their safety responsibilities to the high standards demanded by the Business.
  • To facilitate and coach operational teams on I+W and the respective engagement tools, which allow the team to engage effectively with the workforce.
  • To carry out relevant H&S assurance activities, providing confidence to the business that operational effectiveness of all relevant processes is being delivered.
Key Deliverables and Accountabilities
  • Champion the Inclusion + Wellbeing Programme, including the three pillars.
  • Support delivery of I+W across the project/business/facility and measure H&S performance against strategic deliverables.
  • Challenge bureaucratic, non value adding process and paperwork and motivate teams to focus towards their ethical responsibility.
  • Facilitate Fatal and Severe Risk Assessments at frequencies as established by the facility/ project, providing risk assurance.
  • Facilitate collective insights/ collaborative conversations to identify, through conversation, what works and why it works and what is not working and why it is not working.
  • Facilitate positive investigations/ appreciative enquiries and engage with the workforce to understand how success is created within the business and what our people need and rely upon to replicate that success.
  • Facilitate reviews of work planned vs work as done, and engage with the workforce to discover what normal work is (imagined, planned, completed and disclosed).
  • Regularly gather discovery feedback from the workforce and communicate it to management to allow effective I+W leadership.
  • Support and influence the management team to develop the soft skills required to deliver I+W successfully, i.e. listening, openness, honesty, collaboration, willingness to learn and suspended judgement/ understanding.
  • Innovate, research and promote the adoption of cutting edge, market leading products, technologies, methods and services to support the delivery of I+W.
  • Support and coordinate the investigation of incidents including high potential incidents to ensure effective learning outcomes and timely closure of required actions.
  • Support production of project/ establishment I+W strategy in line with the relevant Business H&S Strategy.
  • Regularly promote, capture and share examples I+W in action across the business via internal media and external social networking.
  • Actively facilitate and drive positive learning opportunities in the facility/ project and effectively cascade business and industry communications.
  • Act as a point of contact and support for facilities/ projects when communicating with enforcement bodies. Ensure any necessary notifications to or correspondence with enforcement bodies is produced and provided in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support the facility/ project in setting I+W maturity goals, inspire progress and report performance as required.
  • Ensure implementation of the Health & Safety Management System including compliance with all relevant statutory provisions.
  • Monitor the close out of actions raised during all assurance and inspection activities as well as those associated with incident investigations and monitor that H&S reviews and assurance checks are being completed as planned.
  • Support the process by which any necessary training and coaching is identified and facilitate the delivery of any necessary training and coaching.
Technical
  • Qualification at level 3 (min)
  • Technical knowledge in Occupational Health risk management and wellbeing
  • Technical knowledge in Environmental risk management
  • Technical knowledge in Safety risk management
  • Coaching / Training competence
  • Assurance / Audit / Investigation competence
  • Member of relevant professional body
Skills
