Our company values include integrity, openness and accountability. These guiding principles ensure we continue to progress our own equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) journey as a business.

Working with our clients, we support them to develop diversity strategies that allow them to access a wide-reaching network of talent, by thinking differently and considering future talent development. It’s an area of recruitment that we heavily focus on ourselves, in our role as an employer, as well as understanding the role we can play in driving inclusion within the engineering sector.

Using our Inclusive+ Recruiter certification for good

Our Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) membership ensures we always remain compliant and grow our Recruitment business legally and ethically.

As an APSCo’s Member Committed to Diversity status since 2019, when they launched their new Inclusive+ Recruiter training and certification programme we were keen to get involved.

Over 70 colleagues across our Group have undertaken APSCo’s Inclusive+ Recruiter training, to ensure we’re best placed to support our clients with their diversity strategies as well as earning our organisation the Inclusive+ Recruiter business certification.

Becoming a Living Wage Employer

Ensuring that everyone earns a wage that can support the everyday challenges life throws up is important to us, which is why we choose to voluntarily pay all NRL Group employees the Real Living Wage as a bare minimum.

By matching the higher real living wage, which is set by the Living Wage Foundation each year, we’re sending a clear message to candidates applying to work at the NRL Group, that they will receive a fair salary to comfortably manage from day to day.

Creating an inclusive workplace

Our Disability Confident Committed status is important to us because it ensures potential candidates know we are happy to support them to undertake their work in a way that works best for them. We work with them to make reasonable adjustments, whilst recognising our responsibility that everyone joining the NRL Group has a level playing field in the workplace.

As a business we thrive for equity, so it was important for us to formalise our inclusive recruitment approach, by signing up to become a Disability Confident Committed employer.

Supporting our Armed Forces and their families

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, our Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award is testament to our commitment to support the Armed Forces and their families, including working with them to find rewarding careers in the engineering sector.

We regularly post our latest jobs through the Career Transition Partnership, the Ministry of Defence’s official resettlement programme, and attend employment fairs across the length and breadth of the UK to chat with hundreds of service leavers to provide practical advice and support to help them find a role outside the military.

Understanding how challenging finding good employment opportunities can be for the families of those people serving in the military, we also actively promote our internal job vacancies within the NRL Group on the Forces Families Jobs website.

Engaging with the next generation

Community outreach is a real passion for our teams, who enjoy working with local school and community initiatives that highlight the vast benefits of a career in engineering to the next generation of workers.

From mentoring young women to set their career aspirations high, to working with cohorts of pupils from primary school to university level – we’re committed to volunteering our time to work with young people from all backgrounds. We’re proud to have colleagues who are mentors and STEM Ambassadors, as well as working with organisations such as the High Tide Foundation who support young people across the Tees Valley region.

Signing the Social Mobility Pledge

Everyone’s background is different, but we believe this shouldn’t create any barriers to employment, which is why we signed up to the Social Mobility Pledge.

The Social Mobility Pledge campaign is a great way for us to demonstrate our commitment to helping people from all walks of life and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone.

Striving to be carbon neutral

The positive impact we make on the environment is just as important to us, which is why we took the decision to become carbon neutral across the NRL Group’s operations.

We’re proud to hold the Carbon Neutral International Standard, working with One Carbon World to independently verify our carbon emissions. We also look for ways to further drive down our emissions each year, having reduced our carbon footprint per employee by one tonne since 2020, offsetting unavoidable CO2 through carbon credits.

Sounds like the kind of organisation you’d love to join?
