MCU Commissioning Lead - Europe 

While on site reports to the MCU Lead Tech, Ensures all turbines are commissioned in accordance with our clients established procedures and safe work practices. The MCU Commissioning Technician is responsible for electrical preparation, LOTO, troubleshooting and commissioning activities during Major Component Upgrade (MCU) activities.


Duties Include:

  • Directly responsible for the MCU Site Commissioning activities from LOTO and de-energization of the turbine until Commissioning and return to Service (RTS)

  • Troubleshoot Wind Turbine during MCU activities to assure lifting activities can be performed according to planning

  • Review and implement all applicable commissioning documents and processes and verify technical compliance during all phases of Wind Turbine commissioning

  • Monitor compliance of the Commissioning test documents with a minimum of one daily visit to each of the onsite activities. Any Deviation from the mandatory daily verifications must be reviewed and authorized by the site manager. Daily verifications are documented using verification tool.

  • Evaluate, mentor and develop prospective Commissioning leads from within current field personnel base

  • Attend weekly MCU Meetings and disseminate all information to subordinates at the site level, capturing Lessons Learned, driving design for commissioning ideas input and COPQ

  • Ensures personnel have the necessary tools and procedures for work during Start Up & Commissioning

  • Ensure Job Site Books containing Commissioning checklists and inspections are 100% completed and accurate

  • Interface with Engineering and COE’s (Centers of Excellence as required to support project issues affecting Commissioning activities

  • Work with M&P Team to review and update procedures as required

  • Adhere to and/or implement Safety Procedures/protocols issued to the site that affect his/her scope of responsibilities in accordance with the Wind EHS Outage Plan.

  • Participates in LOTO process as required/directed

  • Comply with all Quality Processes

  • Coordinates daily commissioning activities on site. Effectively manage available site resources to ensure successful completion of the contractual obligations.

  • Responsible for performing all tasks assigned by the MCU Lead Tech or Project Manager

  • Support Lean activities and continuous improvement actions

  • Track and control commissioning times

  • Responsible for maintaining assigned tooling in a responsible manner

  • Utilize the ServiceNow system to document and request guidance for all technical issues or non-conformances. Ensures corrective action is taken to fix all problems that impact Turbine Completion

  • Provides information for digital tracking tools, where required, as defined by communication Guideline


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree as qualified/certified electrical engineer/technician and bachelor’s degree (or similar) in electrical eng.

  • Significant professional experience performing all aspects of Commissioning work at WTGs

  • Demonstrated skill-set and experience as per GE training matrix for Commissioning (applies to internal candidates)

  • Ability and confidence to work at height (includes physical fitness to climb) as per G41 or similar standard

  • Capable of working at remote sites in adverse weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold, wind, altitude)

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work domestically and internationally as required

  • Ability and willingness to work on weekends, public-vacation, shift-work or on-call duty as required

  • Valid/clean driving license (EU class B, BE)

  • English fluency, particularly with technical explanations (min. Level B2, C1 preferred)

  • Unrestricted EU work permit

  • Previous GE experience is a must

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines whilst continuing to follow safety/quality guidelines

  • Competent in Health and Safety standards (EHS)

  • Analytic skills regarding technical tasks and processes, Leadership behavior, Humility, Transparency deliver with Focus
