Job Title: Commissioning Engineer – Transmission & Distribution Sector

Location: Wimbledon

Contract Duration: 1 year (starting January 2025)

Hours: 55 hours per week

Rate: Competitive day rate (CIS available)

Company Overview:

Our client is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Commissioning Engineer to join heir team, at a Substation in Wimbledon. This role involves critical commissioning work on high-voltage substations in the T&D sector, ensuring all systems are safely and effectively operational. The position requires expertise with substation commissioning and a thorough understanding of the operational standards for UK Power Networks (UKPN) and National Grid (NG) sites.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct commissioning activities on T&D equipment and systems at the UKPN Substation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines.

  • Review and implement commissioning procedures, ensuring they are aligned with project requirements and safety standards.

  • Verify system and component functionality, including inspection, testing, and validation of substation equipment.

  • Troubleshoot issues on-site, identifying and implementing effective solutions to maintain project schedules.

  • Document and report commissioning progress, including any incidents, resolutions, and adjustments to improve operational efficiency.

  • Work closely with project managers, technical teams, and client representatives to ensure commissioning tasks meet technical specifications.

  • Uphold stringent safety protocols, ensuring compliance with all UKPN and NG site safety standards.

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders regarding commissioning status, timelines, and challenges.

Requirements:

  • UKPN Substation Entry Authorisation: Candidates must hold current UKPN Substation authorisation.

  • Experience on NG Sites: Previous experience working on National Grid sites is highly preferred.

  • National Grid Authorisation: Holding National Grid Authorised Person status is beneficial.

  • Proven experience in substation commissioning within the T&D sector, with a strong understanding of high-voltage systems.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals for T&D equipment.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering quality, safety, and efficiency in all commissioning activities.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-pressure environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Professional certifications or authorisations in substation commissioning, such as TP141 or equivalent, are advantageous.
