Colleagues in NRL’s Woking branch are joining together in March to raise much-needed funds for local charity Your Sanctuary.

The Woking based charity supports survivors of domestic abuse – helping them to get the support and refugee they need.

By walking or running NRL’s colleagues have set themselves the target of travelling 83km each week as a team – collecting donations along the way. The 83 milestone is significant because it marks the number of survivors the charity supported in their refuges last year. Kilometres will be clocked up during the first 4 weeks of March, spurring each other on to race to the 83 marker each week.

The group are joined by colleagues in NRL’s Global Recruitment and International Assignment Support team, who are also based at the Woking branch.

Keen to support an important local cause, Your Sanctuary was chosen by the branch as part of the NRL Group’s year of giving back – where colleagues across the Group are supporting local charities each month.

Who are Your Sanctuary?

The brilliant team at Your Sanctuary work with women, men and children across Surrey to provide urgent support - including a confidential helpline, community outreach service and safe house refuges for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
Sadly, use of their services rose last year as the global pandemic began to immobilise the country:

  • 3,582 calls were received through their helpline

  • 1,295 referrals were made to their community outreach service

  • 83 survivors from 37 families were supported at Your Sanctuary refuges

  • 46 children also needed refuge

To meet demand for their crucial services, Your Sanctuary recently opened a new refuge last month with 25 bedrooms. In support of this, the fundraising team are looking to work with more local businesses to help furnish and equip the 11 accommodation units planned.
