Siemens is partnering with UK technical recruitment firm NRL for the Keadby 2 project in North Lincolnshire, which is being developed by SSE, and is set to become the cleanest and most efficient gas-fired power station in Europe.

NRL’s Wigan team will be responsible for engaging with the local community and its existing UK-based candidates to manage recruitment of workers needed for the project, including those working to the National Agreement of the Engineering Construction Industry (NAECI) standards.

All subcontractors working for the project will be obliged to use NRL resources when selecting candidates to ensure a local legacy for the project. In addition, any candidates who wish to be considered for work at Keadby 2 will need to register with NRL to be considered, to ensure a fair recruitment process.

To the end of May 2019, more than 70% of the workers on site at Keadby 2 were from the UK. The project wants to maintain a strong UK workforce to ensure skills and economic benefit are delivered by the project to the community it is based in.

NRL’s Wigan recruitment branch will be responsible for creating a detailed labour pool with all prospective candidates required to meet competency requirements. All successful applicants will have to undertake a face-to-face interview prior to being appointed to work on site.

Workers from the local area will be prioritised and in addition to using its extensive database of candidates, NRL will work closely with Job Centre Plus in the local area, including those in Scunthorpe and Doncaster. A series of jobs fairs will run over the summer, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Mike Fox, Senior Project Manager for Keadby 2, Siemens Gas and Power, said,

"We’re delighted to be working with an organisation with an excellent track record in finding the skilled workers needed for energy construction projects. A jobs fair will take place over the summer where people can register their interest in working on the project and find out more about the roles due to come up in the next round of recruitment. We hope this will help us to find people from the local and surrounding areas with the skills and competence needed to build the power station."

Mark Birley, SSE’s Project Manager for Keadby 2, said,

"The UK and the regions close to the Keadby 2 project have a highly skilled talent pool and I’m delighted that by working with NRL, the project should be able to tap into this. Through having a dedicated portal for all jobs, it will provide a one-stop-shop for people interested in working on the project to find out about the jobs available."

Greg Compton, NRL Group Director, said,

"NRL has extensive expertise supporting high-profile NAECI categorised projects, so we’re delighted to be working in partnership with SSE and Siemens at Keadby 2. All parties were keen to operate a fair and open process to attract suitably qualified candidates to this site. As this project progresses, we expect some great opportunities for local people and look forward to working with all stakeholders to help deliver a successful project."

Keadby 2 is a £350 million project which will deliver electricity to around 800,000 homes. Around 700 job opportunities will be created during construction.
