NRL’s Mechanical & Civil Engineering client have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Environmental Manager to join them in their Ilkeston Head Office. This is a full-time permanent role. Pipeline experience is preferred. 


About the role:

  • Working from the head office in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, you will be reporting to the company Director’s, effectively managing and co-ordinating Environmental activities for the company, both at head office and on sites ensuring that all agreed targets and activities are achieved in a timely manner.

  • You will also provide support to our contracts / construction team by producing and delivering of Environmental Plans which ensures all contracts are fully compliant.

  • Support improvement in Quality, Safety and Environmental culture of the company, by maintaining and improving our UKAS accredited ISO 14001 Environmental management systems.

  • Work closely with our management team, clients and project stakeholders to achieve contract aims, develop processes and procedures and implement good compliance management practices, advising on operational matters, coaching and mentoring to enhance Environmental performance.

  • Train and develop our team regarding our Integrated Management System (IMS) and legislative requirements.

  • Manage and maintain an audit regime for statutory and environmental compliance

  • Ensure all our staff are aware of our environmental systems of work, comply to same and have in place sufficient training.

Responsibilities:

  • Producing and delivering of Environmental plans and subsequently monitoring these to support the achievement of operational objectives.

  • Liaise with all levels of personnel within the company and relevant external agencies on Environmental matters to facilitate improvements for site, including but not limited to the HSE and Environment Agency.

  • Work with our Director’s and Contracts Team to ensure the development of the positive environmental culture at our company.

  • Lead in the verification of our Legal Compliance

  • Produce and deliver environmental calendar events ensuring consistency and continuous improvement e.g., Managers updates, Inductions, training, presentations etc.

  • Continuous monitoring and auditing of environmental systems and procedures for all sites. Where necessary, update, revise systems as required to help ensure site compliance with legislation and company policy. Importance to be given to the assistance to site management with the continuous improvement of risk assessments, systems of work and incident investigation.

  • Manage Audit Programme for the business and all contracts to monitor compliance and ensure external accreditation requirements are being maintained.

  • Mentor managers in our IMS System to enable them to maintain compliance – identifying trends and delivering initiatives to encourage compliance performance improvements.

  • Support the business with the management of complex/high risk environmental issues/concerns through advice and coaching.

  • Supporting with environmental consents / permits through applications and notifications required

  • Assist with the production of RAMS for all work activities both at our head office workshop facility and all construction sites including high risk activities.

  • Provide detailed monthly reports to inform management of the shaping of environmental strategy, policy and product development.

  • Support and encourage positive employee communication processes with emphasis on engagement and communication at all levels. Build constructive working relationships locally with Site Representatives, leading or supporting meetings both at our head office or on construction sites when required.

What you will need?

  • IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management

  • Experience in Pipelines and AGI's ideally. 

  • Excellent understanding of the gas and oil industry would be preferable,

  • Qualification / Experience of CDM 2015 Regulations.

  • Experience of operating in a complex, commercial, multi-divisional organisation.

  • Experience of ISO14001 audits.

  • Solid and up to date knowledge of practical environmental principles and practices as well as environmental legislation.

  • In depth knowledge of statutory compliance.

  • Detailed understanding of preferably all aspects of Environmental Management system.

  • Solid understanding of construction and project related safety aspects

  • Ability to deal with people at every level
