Construction Area Coordinator

The role of the Construction Coordinator is to assist the Construction Manager with the management of construction activities on Sellafield sites. The Construction Coordinator assists with the control and supervision of the works being undertaken. They support the Construction Manager as part of the Intelligent Customer team in ensuring that the construction activities are executed to meet the regulatory & statutory requirements of the licensee, as well as the goals and objectives of the project and business.

The Construction Coordinator assist in enabling the construction works where there are plant interfaces and then oversees the works on behalf of the Construction Manager to ensure that the design intent is met. They are appointed by the Construction Manager on completion of a satisfactory SQEP assessment. The Construction Coordinator reports to the Construction Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with delivery of the construction discipline phase of the project, meeting safety, cost, programme and quality objectives.

  • Ensure that the contractors and their supervisors are suitably Qualified and Experienced to carry out their respective roles.

  • Ensuring a proactive and proportionate approach to nuclear safety through quality and safety to ensure that they are optimised on the site.

  • Ensuring a proactive & proportionate approach to radiological, conventional and environmental safety.

  • Ensuring that work is controlled in accordance with Conduct of Engineering Manual.

  • Ensuring all legal, regulatory, and contractual and governance arrangements are met.

  • Ensure that controlling documents submitted by Contractors are reviewed and commented on for compliance with the site requirements.

  • Reporting progress to the Construction Manager and maintaining appropriate records for safety, contractual or quality purposes for capturing, sharing and applying construction LFE and shared best practice.

  • Managing day to day liaison with plant personnel to ensure any necessary permissions are in place and minimize impact to the project. Provides work pack and interface with PWP.

  • Assist with the discharge of Nominated Representative duties as required.

  • Assist with the discharge of SL's CDM duties as required.

  • To assist CM with monitoring contractors in relation to site, contractual and statutory requirements an ensure contractors are aware of their subsequent responsibilities.

  • Ensuring that the physical configuration of constructed plant (i.e. ensuring the design intent is met) through witness, surveillance and verification of work and manufacturing records.

  • Ensuring that Construction work is controlled in accordance with Engineering arrangements (Conduct of Engineering Manual) and that all Legal, Regulatory, Contractual and Governance obligations are met.

  • Capturing, sharing and applying Construction LFE and shared best practice.

  • Ensure that construction work allocated is supervised, checked and accepted to a specific verifiable standard, together with integration of this work with that of other Engineering disciplines.

  • Assist with input and maintenance of the Construction documentation.

  • Co-ordinate interfaces between contractors, designers, operators, work planners and Client at site level to ensure the flow of relevant information is uninterrupted.

  • Raising Corrective actions and defect notifications as per the standard procedures and ensuring the correct action is taken.

  • Ensure site work is scheduled in the integrated works management process to allow it to be planned and coordinated to meet programmed dates.

  • To accept or reject or require correction to construction work.

  • To start or stop construction work.
