NRL are currently recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer to work for an offshore engineering company.
Initially for a 3 month contract, the role will be based in Ipswich.
Job duties:
Work closely with the Engineering Team to ensure the highest calibre of technical delivery on all projects.
Assist the set-up, implementation and management of Autodesk Vault file management system.
Support the growth of the department through effective leadership of the team’s capabilities and capacity
Ability to develop concepts and detailed designs based on client/ internal briefs and ensure that all deadlines are met.
Analyse the design proposals/ technical information and identify potential issues and remedies, highlighting any technical risks to the Engineering Management
Maintain a smooth flow of information to the design team leads, line managers, other stakeholders, and Senior Management
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
Identify solutions to improve designs, ease of fabrication and reduction of costs
Carry out detailed design work including 3D modelling and drawings
Ensuring accuracy of drawings/ designs by checking and obtaining second person checks and actively checking your work for correctness, content and quality throughout the process whilst also ensuring delivery is on time
Checking colleagues work, including calculations, drawings, and reports, and making recommendations/ corrections and improvements as required
Ensure constructability of designs
Consider implications such as cost, viability, safety, reliability, and time constraints
Help to promote a culture of innovation and creativity within the design team to ensure the flow of new ideas.
To act as cover during Principal Design Engineers holiday periods and to assist the Engineering Team to regularly update the work schedules of the design team
Keep projects aligned with the company’s goals and values and ensure the project timeline is met and projects stay within budget.
To communicate and work closely with vendors and contractors
To ensure company and industry standards, processes and best practice are followed, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing with agreement of the Engineering Management.
Maintain the internal departmental processes and procedures to ensure compliance to QA standards
Ensuring software standards and efficiency are maintained and enhanced
Attend/ Chair and participate in relevant design review meetings
Deliver R & D activities within your remit.
Motivate the team
Maintain and enhance Orwell’s engineering reputation in the marketplace.
To undertake additional tasks as may be required by the company from time to time.
Qualifications Required:
HND/ Degree qualification in Engineering
Experience/expertise in the following disciplines:
Structural and mechanical design/draughting
Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and Vault file management system.
Experience in producing structural design drawings.
Experience in producing piping isometric and P&ID/PFD drawings.
Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing mechanical systems and products
Must be self-motivated and a great team worker
Basic Commercial & Contractual awareness
