Job Description:
NRL are currently recruiting for both Qualified Financial Accountants & Overhead Accountants to work on a 6 month contract for one of our leading defence clients. This role will be based at Lakeside in Portsmouth. Remote working until lockdown ends then 4 days remote one day in the office. Hours: 37 per week

Financial Accountant (Qualified)
Reporting to the Reporting Finance Manager - UKMA, processing and documenting all aspects of UKMA indirect and overhead cost allocation, reviewing and cleansing UKMA Balance Sheet, and supporting the accurate forecasting and reporting on the financial performance of overhead support functions working with budget owners and key stakeholders to challenge the results and provide financial support. This will include understanding time sheet cost recording, process improvement for accounting and cost allocation, and liaison with the Shared Service Centre, Information Services and other Group functions to manage relationships and information flows. Consolidating overheads, meeting with budget holders, variance analysis.

About The Role:

  • UKMA financial transactions for accurate and complete reporting including defined cost allocation processes
  • Balance sheet control and reconciliation including remuneration/payroll related control accounts
  • Supporting forecasting and reporting on the financial performance of overhead support functions
  • Adherence to all reporting timetables for monthly actuals for SAP and for BPC reporting and ensuring compliance with Group Finance policies and procedures
  • Support of timely and technically accurate reporting, meeting Group signing deadlines and other filing requirements
  • Production of ad-hoc UKMA reporting.
  • Month-end financial transactions to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial reporting
  • Production and documentation of standardised process for allocating and journaling cost from various sources and invoices to contracts and support functions
  • Full balance sheet reconciliation and review (including fixed asset register maintenance) with aged balances cleared (e.g. remuneration related control accounts) and ongoing processes to maintain  balances documented
  • Support AR UKMA activities as required including cash management and petty cash
  • To document and manage detailed forecast models for the overhead support functions, updating for budget & forecast processes, including balance sheet assumptions, and ensuring the financial integrity of these models
  • To provide detailed variance analysis for monthly actuals movements, including variances against budget, forecast and monthly fluctuations, and understanding time sheet cost recording within the overhead support functions
  • Identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of the services provided ensuring engagement with individuals who can validate and progress those opportunities
  • Adherence to all reporting timetables for monthly actuals, budget and forecast submissions and ensuring compliance with Group Finance policies and procedures
  • Ownership of intercompany matching, ensuring agreement of all internal trading balances
  • Supporting the submission of monthly management reporting and other Sector and Group reporting requirements recognised in the Group accounting ledger  
  • Providing support to the Finance Director and Head of Finance for ad hoc analysis requests and responding to Sector and Group
What You Will Need:
  • Recognised professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, ACMA)
  • Strong and up to date technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Ability to understand and manipulate data to present clear and concise financial messages for review.
  • Ability to ensure deadlines and targets are achieved or surpassed.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of industry and regulatory standards in respect to Financial Reporting.
  • Extensive experience in the use of Microsoft Office 2010 suite of applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Access and Outlook.
  • Experience of Finance IT applications (e.g. SAP)
  • Effective matrix management of the customers of the service and the other functional units within the Finance team and other support functions.

Overheads Accountant:
Reporting to the Reporting Finance Manager - Military supporting all aspects of Business Unit (BU) ERP, management reporting, BPC and statutory reporting. Focus on central finance functions, posting journals working towards reports for month end.

About The Role:
  • Support of Sector and Group reporting on behalf of the Business Unit including monthly accounts, budgets (including consolidation), forecasts and strategic plans for Military Overheads.
  • Support Overheads model development and review – for all aspects of reporting and forecasting, including variance analysis
  • Management accounting transactions for the BU as required.
  • Interfacing with external auditors, including supporting deliverables and other ad hoc audit requirements
  • Provide system administration e.g. the maintenance of the ERP structure, management of the chart of accounts and coding structure, management of period and year end closure.
  • Providing support to the Reporting Finance Manager - Military in all ad hoc analysis requests (including providing input into technical accounting papers as and when required).
  • BU financial transactions for accurate and complete reporting
  • Production/processing of accounting inputs to the management accounts, budgets and forecasts, including liaison with Business Unit finance stakeholders.
  • Production of ad-hoc BU reporting
  • Support the Finance Reporting Manager relationship with the external auditors and ensure timely fulfilment of deliverables requests during the half-year and full year audit processes, as well as additional audit deliverables during the local statutory accounts process and presentations for the Business Unit Finance Director and subsequent submission to Group.
  • Support of year end audit packs, tax packs and other Group reporting requirements.
What You Will Need:
  • Part qualified in a  professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, ACMA) or  AAT with a view to become fully qualified
  • Experience of audit processes
  • Understanding of technical accounting, including IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Ability to understand and manipulate data to present clear and concise financial messages for review.
  • Ability to ensure deadlines and targets are achieved or surpassed.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of industry and regulatory standards in respect to Financial Reporting.
  • Extensive experience in the use of Microsoft Office 2010 suite of applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Access and Outlook.
