Job Description:
NRL are currently recruiting for a Data Architect, supporting HS2 in London Euston on a contract basis.


About the role:

  • Develops digital engineering’s information model and ensure adherence to relevant enterprise strategies
  • Ensures the information model is integrated with wider business and technology architectures such as the systems landscape and business capability requirements
  • Develop an ontology framework, in-line with relevant industry standards, to support digital engineering data modelling activities
  • Engage with functional leads to develop and document a cohesive data framework, including ontology and taxonomy for CAD, GIS and Asset Information
  • Support the functional leads in reviewing and aligning the data schemas and where possible remove duplication of data specifications
  • Define an end to end information life-cycle, in-line with existing technical gates
  • Lead on all data management activities related to the CDE, including data architecture, data quality and master data management
  • Advices Information Asset Owners on best practise for managing data to ensure quality.


What you will need:
This role has generic responsibilities and accountabilities to SFIA level 5.  The relevant SFIA skills are:
  • Enterprise and business architecture development (STPL) at level 5
  • Information Governance (IRMG) at level 6
  • Data management (DATM) at level 6
  • Information Assurance (INAS) at level 5
  • Specialist Advice (TECH) at level 5 - with specialism for Information Architecture
  • Stakeholder relationship management (RLMT) at level 5
  • Ability to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific scientific, technical and engineering principles to project development / delivery teams but knowing when to seek further guidance from Subject Matter Expert or others.
  • Ability to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific analysis, problem solving and design techniques to project development / delivery teams, but knowing when to seek further guidance from Subject Matter Expert or others
  • Ability to communicate many discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based on a mix of training and examples of application
  • Ability to articulate many principles relating to standards, safety and the environment without prompting
  • Able to apply principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security, basic understanding of data creation and visualisation, working under supervision of line manager or in liaison with relevant Subject Matter Expert

KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks and processes (e.g. TOGAF)
  • Ability to create both conceptual, logical and physical data modelling and design to meet business or IT solution requirements
  • Knowledge of architectural tools such as Sparx EA, Casewise or Erwin
  • Data warehousing, business intelligence (BI) and analytics technologies, design patterns, tools and best practice
  • Database design/ modelling technologies, design patterns, tools and best practice (e.g. Oracle RDBMS/ IBM DB2/ Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Mainframe data and database design/modelling, technologies, design patterns, tools and best practice (e.g. VME IDMS / CA-Datacom)
