  • The Skills Gap

The skills gap is a growing concern within the engineering and technical sectors as graduates are falling short of the standards needed to replace the currently ageing workforce. Six out of ten engineering employers are concerned that the lack of engineers will threaten businesses in the UK. Employers are currently seeing a lack of practical, managerial and technical skills. With help from the government they are looking to increase training through local councils, schools and colleges in order to motivate future workforces and provide opportunities to build vital skills. We have summarised the main issues of the skills gap in the infographic below.

At NRL we support the progression of candidates by offering training programmes which qualify candidates in areas such as Personal Track Safety (PTS), fire awareness and manual handling. Furthermore, we work alongside clients who encourage development and career progression through apprenticeships.
