    Victoria Square Woking

Victoria Square is set to transform Woking town centre, helping shape a regeneration that will best position the town for years to come.

NRL’s Woking recruitment branch Team Leader Andy Williams looks at how the project is progressing.

It’s hard not to see the progress going on with the build, especially when it’s the main view from our Woking recruitment branch.

We’re situated on Church Street West, adjacent to the main build site, so we have a bird’s eye view of old buildings being pulled down and new structures beginning to raise.

    Progress on-site

After demolition work was completed, Woking’s new skyline soon started coming to life.

The three new high storey towers will become two residential complexes and a flagship Hilton hotel – providing more living accommodation to secure Woking’s position as a great London commuter choice as well as a thriving town in its own right. This will include buy-to-let apartments, to help local residents get onto the property ladder. The Hilton hotel will include 196 guest bedrooms and 12 suites, with completion expected early 2021.

For the 125,000 sq ft commercial space being created, this will centre around a Marks & Spencer clothing and food store, with a new medical centre and two public plazas helping repurpose the area ensuring local residents can make better use of it.

To complete the development the old Red car park at Woking Shopping Centre has been demolished. This will be replaced with a new 1,382 space to support the increase in retail and leisure units, and 740 additional parking bays in the town centre.

Whilst work on Victoria Square continues, the Council’s highways department are also undertaking redevelopment of the town’s road infrastructure.

As a recruitment agency, we’re excited to see the new opportunities that this regeneration is bringing into the town.
