At NRL we believe in supporting our teams in aiding and raising money for causes that they feel passionate about. For the second time this year our client INEOS – one of the UK’s largest manufacturing companies, staged their ‘GO Run For Fun’ event in Falkirk, Scotland. To show their support for the foundation our Falkirk-based team decided to endorse the event by making a donation to contribute towards the cost of hosting the run.
GO Run For Fun is a nationwide programme of short-distance runs for children between the ages of 5 and 10. This charitable foundation was established in 2013 by Mr Ratcliffe, owner of INEOS, in response to the physical inactivity crisis in the UK. The aim of the initiative is to encourage lifestyle change by promoting sport as fun, inclusive and accessible from an early age.
To support the establishment of the new foundation and raise awareness of its key objective to encourage children to run for fun, Mr Ratcliffe has already committed a £1.5m donation spread over three years.
Commenting on the foundation Mr Ratcliffe says: “I’m passionate about getting as many children running as possible as early as possible. We’ve held events across locations in Wales, England, Ireland and are thrilled to now kick off our second event in Falkirk, Scotland in partnership with local running club, Falkirk Victoria Harriers. We’ve ambitious plans to get 100,000 children running by 2016 and the people of Scotland are going to play a key role in helping us to inspire future generations and encourage them to give running a go.”
As part of their charity efforts this year our Falkirk branch chose to get behind this key initiative to promote and encourage the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle to young children. This event marked a particularly momentous milestone for the GO Run For Fun campaign- the finishing of the 45,000th participant, at its 100th fun run.
Mhairi Brown, Divisional Manager comments on NRL’s sponsorship of the event held in Scotland:
“We are proud to have been a sponsor of the second GO Run For Fun event held in Falkirk, Scotland. It’s crucial to get children participating in sport and developing a positive attitude towards leading a healthy and active lifestyle. GO Run For Fun is a great way to introduce young people to running which forms the basis of so many prominent sports and as a company NRL are proud to be involved in such a forward-thinking initiative.”
