Having set off from the Canary Islands 32 days ago, when they had never attempted the epic challenge of rowing across the Atlantic Ocean before, amateur team Fortitude IV rowed into Antigua late Monday 14th January 2020 – lifting the trophy as the winners of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2019.

Taking just 32 days, 12 hours and 35 minutes to row 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean without stopping – the team took it in turns to row 3 hours on, 3 hours off.
Leading the race from the very early stages, the team rowed relentlessly throughout the race, spending Christmas and New Year on board, as well as celebrating two birthdays. Despite the race being deemed the World’s toughest row, and capsizing several times, the four friends continued to hold a two day lead on the competition.
The team was met in English Harbour, Antigua by a large crowd of family, friends and holidaymakers – all keen to celebrate their outstanding achievement.

Fortitude IV made the journey across the Atlantic Ocean to raise money for West London Zone. The charity works with underprivileged young children across London, including those affected by the Grenfell Tower disaster. The team set themselves the challenge of raising £250k, as if rowing 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean wasn’t tough enough.
