In line with the world cup, we are investigating the similarities between the football industry and the recruitment industry to gain a better understanding of what it means to put the right people with the right skills in the right position. This week we are looking at how important it is to support people in both industries so that they can achieve their full potential.
The opening match of the 2014 World Cup between Brazil and Croatia kicked off on Thursday, with the hosts Brazil coming away with a 3-1 victory, coming back after their left-back Marcelo Vieira scored an own goal in the first half of the game. The three goals scored by the team were scored by two members of the squad making their debut at the World Cup; Neymar and Oscar both only 22 years old.
Talking about his team before the match, Neymar said “I believe individually we have a very strong squad and when we play collectively we are very difficult to beat, If our whole team doesn’t play connected we won’t win”. This concept of working together and utilising one another’s skills to work towards and attain a shared outcome or vision is not only essential in the football industry but it is also crucial in the recruitment industry.
Achieving your full potential
NRL are renowned for being an excellent recruitment company and we recognise that our success is due to the individuals that make up our teams. In order to remain successful we understand that we rely on our people being motivated and working in a positive environment where they feel valued. That is why we don’t just recognise the importance of good ideas but we operate a system that allows the people who work for us to share their ideas and carry out their work to the highest possible standards, enabling them to achieve their fullest potential.
Nurturing and supporting talented candidates and employees so that they can reach their true potential is also important in the football market with new talented players such as Neymar and Oscar from the Brazil squad who are both starting out in their football career needing consistent support throughout their development. When we are working with applicants we always aim to identify their respective personality traits, capabilities and long-term aspirations, with our main goal being to find every individual a position in which they can develop and an organisation that they can add value to.
Brazil manager, Luiz Felipe Scolari recognises the importance of helping the players in his team to reach their full and true potential saying that; “Our job is to help players evolve so they can play football that is technically correct and balanced, but also play it with pleasure because they’re there to represent their country”.
