National Grid

NRL has been on the national grid supplier framework since 2001, and was awarded a further five-year contract in 2012. As one of the four companies that are approved to supply personnel to National Grid on their gas pipeline construction projects throughout the UK, we have successfully retained our status throughout the contract as a key supplier.

At its peak, the turnover with National Grid was £9 million a year, with over 150 candidates working at project locations across the UK, stretching from St. Fergus in the North of Scotland, to Indian Queens in Cornwall.

In 2006, NRL established a training company alongside the National Grid, in order to address a chronic skills shortage in the Gas Pipeline industry and the significant impact of this was having on their ability to deliver their programmed works.

NRL made a considerable investment; establishing the school, designing training courses, identifying suitable candidates, hiring trainers, liaising with examination bodies and delivering the training.

Within the first year, the training company had produced over 100 candidates who were placed on projects throughout the UK. The school has now diversified, and delivers courses that cover safety awareness, pre-site inductions, NDT and inspection. Alongside this, we also offer clients the option of tailoring training to their own specific needs.
