The Four Oarsmen have certainly been keeping themselves busy – juggling training to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic ocean with demanding working days. Somehow though they’re also finding time in their hectic weeks to organise a dinner and auction to help raise even more funds for charity.
The team are taking on the heroic challenge of rowing the Atlantic ocean, non-stop, to raise funds for Mind and Spinal Research UK – charities with which they have strong personal connections. The dinner, held at Pergola on the Roof in Paddington Central on the 26th September 2017, will be a chance to add to the race donations with a charity auction taking centre stage.
We caught up with them to see how the planning is going:
“We are very much in the thick of it with the event planning. It’s on 26th September 2017 in London and should be a great evening. The owner of the venue has very kindly offered it up free of charge, and thrown in all the beer and wine, so ticket proceeds will be going straight to our charities. It is acts of generosity like this that have kept us going at various stages throughout our preparations so far; it is truly humbling.
Pergola is a super venue but we’ve got a tremendous amount to pull together to make it as successful as we want it to be. Close friends and families have also been extremely generous in donating prizes and lots for our auction and we’ve managed to recruit Phillip Serrell from Bargain Hunt to host the auction on the night, so we’re hoping it’s going to be quite the spectacle! The boat will be on show at the event too, so it will give people a really good chance to get a feel for our living conditions during the crossing.”
NRL are proud to sponsor The Four Oarsmen with their 3,000 mile challenge, and CEO Andrew Redmayne was only too happy to support the charity auction with a golf day for four at the prestigious Renaissance Club.
