NRL are extremely proud to be sponsoring The Four Oarsmen as they take on the task of rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. George, Dicky, Peter and Stuart are competing in the annual Talisker Whiskey Atlantic challenge in order to fundraise for two charities that hold a place close to their hearts – Mind and Spinal Research UK.
The gruelling challenge is no simple excursion – more people have been to space or climbed Everest than have rowed the Atlantic. The trip across the ocean will see the boys alternating between two-hour on-and-off rowing shifts. They will also need to be mindful of the boat’s weight capacity, weather patterns and their food supply, making the journey as mentally demanding as it is physically challenging. This is the ultimate test of mind, body and soul – as stated on the Talisker Whisky Website:
“MORE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INTO SPACE OR CLIMBED EVEREST THAN HAVE ROWED THE ATLANTIC.”
The group have already begun their training for the big event in December and we’ll be following them along the way as they gear up to take on this huge endeavour.
